A few years ago, Florida tournament winning guide
Capt. Paul Tejera set out to develop a durable, weedless jig that would cover a variety of
flats-fishing situations. He consulted other top fishing professionals to find out what they would like see in a shallow water lure. The result of his efforts is the
BackBone Skimmer Jig, a lure that casts easily, sinks slowly, and produces a
tantalizing zig-zag motion when retrieved. Skimmer Jigs are hand-tied in 3 sizes and 15 colors. They are available in quarter-ounce, half-ounce and the new 1/8 oz. Bahamas jig. They ride hook-up and feature
monofilament weed guards. Great for bonefish , permit, reds, snook, seatrout, stripers (striped bass) and other
shallow-water species. |
The success of the Backbone 1/4 ounce skimmer series jig spawned two other size jigs to fit even wider range of applications. The 1/8 ounce Bahamas Jig was developed for a light presentation and for smaller fish, such as bonefish found in the Bahamas and in the Yucatan. The 1/2 ounce jig is made to fish deeper waters and has great success with offshore schooling dolphin. They are also effective in fast moving channels up to about 12 feet deep. All Backbone Lures Jigs are made with quality in mind. The finest materials available are used in their construction. Custom dyed bucktails, and crystal flash combine for a very alluring look. All materials are bound at the jig head with monofilament to avoid the fraying which occurs with thread and are tied on custom saltwater Mustad Hooks. Backbone Lures are all painted with epoxy based paint for a hard chip resistant finish. All jigs come with a monofilament weed guard to shed surface weeds. Backbone lures have a triangular head design, this enables the lure to sink slower, zigzag upon retrieve and ride hook-up.
